A thug who attacked a woman twice in 24 hours, only days after they began a relationship, has been jailed.

Dean Donnelly, 27, struck Samantha Fee on the head with a glass which smashed during an assault at her Workington home on May 20.

As blood poured from a wound, Miss Fee tried to flee - but was punched several times by Donnelly, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

The previous evening he had grabbed her by the hair before punching her on the arm and face after becoming jealous of her mobile phone contents.

Donnelly denied any wrongdoing until today, when he admitted two assaults on Miss Fee - one causing actual bodily harm - as he was about to go on trial.

The court heard of his previous convictions for violence.

He had received prison sentences both for fracturing a man's skull with a bottle and then slashing another man's face with a craft knife.

For his latest crimes, Donnelly, of Eller Bank, Harrington, Workington, was jailed for two years by Recorder Julie Clemitson.

He was also banned, indefinitely, from contacting Miss Fee.

"You clearly have a problem with your temper," the judge told him.

"You clearly have a problem with resorting to violence to resolve your issues."
