THOUSANDS of people flocked to Cockermouth Show for one of the highlights of the summer calendar.

All generations were enjoying the non-stop action throughout the day at The Fitz and, to top it all, the sun came out in the afternoon.

President Will Rawling, who farms at Ennerdale, said: “I think Cockermouth is a really good agricultural show, it's not lost its agricultural roots although it's equally attractive to a whole range of people. It caters for everyone without becoming too commercial.

“There are many local traders, both large and small, which is testament to the show's popularity.”

More than 100 cattle and 800 sheep battled it out in the livestock pens and more than 100 horses and ponies were competing. There were also goats and lots of poultry.

Tables in the industrial tent were covered with more than 1,110 entries, from brilliantly crafted door stops and hilarious fruit animals to beautifully made cakes and photographs.
