A teenager was rescued after becoming trapped on cliffs.

An emergency alert was sparked after he became stuck at Whitey Rock at Whitehaven.

A Whitehaven Coastguard crew was sent to the scene at 4.30pm today.

A spokesman said: "Our rope rescue team swiftly deployed and were on scene in minutes.

"On arrival we found that Cumbria Fire and Rescue had been tasked prior to us.

"They were in the process of setting up rope rescue to secure the casualty and lowered him to an awaiting ambulance crew."

St Bees RNLI were also asked to launch.

But as they arrived on scene it was decided they could stand down.
