Coffee firm Starbucks has rubbished suggestions it could be reopening a store in Carlisle - despite posting fresh job adverts online.

Last week adverts appeared on the chain's careers website advertising supervisor and barista positions.

Starbucks had been in Scotch Street for 10 years, taking over the former Music Zone store next to Waterstones. However, it ended its decade-long stay in April.

Fans had been hoping it would make a return as it was the only Starbucks branch in the city.

The adverts fuelled speculation that the company was about to reopen in Carlisle.

However, when contacted by the News & Star Starbucks said the jobs were posted by mistake and any chance of a return is unlikely.

A spokeswoman said: “We are aware that out of date job adverts were listed on our website and can confirm that we have no plans to open a new store in Carlisle at the moment.

"The adverts have now been removed and we apologies for any confusion caused."
