A community centre has a new look after generous store staff helped to redecorate one of its communal areas.

Staff from the M&S Gretna Outlet, at Gretna Gateway , recently donated £500 and decorated the dining area of nearby Gretna Day Centre.

The activity was part of the retailer’s recent commitment to deliver one million hours of community volunteering across the country by 2025 to help make a difference to the projects and initiatives that really matter in the communities it serves.

Nationwide, employees in every M&S store joined their colleagues in Gretna by helping to transform local projects that make a real difference as part of its Make it Matter activity.

In total, over 50,000 people supported in excess of 500 community projects nationally.

M&S Gretna Outlet store manager Ben Morris said: “We were really excited to come together to support the day centre.

"Volunteering can make a profound difference to the communities in which we live, work and play – we believe that lots of the small actions from lots of people, can collectively have a huge impact.

“We decided to choose Gretna Day Centre to benefit from the funds as we previously worked with them through our charity of the year activity and wished to continue our support for them by making a positive change.”

Gretna Day Centre is based just half a mile from Gretna Gateway and works to support to more than 250 people by providing meals at the centre as well as directly to people’s homes and fun activities, including bingo and live music.

Gretna Gateway marketing manager Lisa McNab, said: “We are really proud of the team at M&S Gretna Outlet for dedicating their time to improve the town’s community centre.

“With hundreds of people from in and around Gretna visiting the Day Centre each week, it is really important for the environment to be welcoming, so it is fantastic that the M&S team were able to help make such a difference."
