Apprentices, trainees and graduates at Sellafield handed £12,905.93 to a Cumbrian charity.

Hospice At Home West Cumbria received the cash last week, which was raised through events held in 2017.

Chris Carruthers, who oversees the charity and community work that the Sellafield graduates, apprentices and trainees provide, said: "We have provided support to a number of charities over the last few years and Hospice At Home West Cumbria was the chosen charity for 2017, we set ourselves the target of achieving as much as possible for a fantastic cause."

Linda Hewitt, charity's chief executive officer, said: "We are delighted to receive such a fantastic amount, the support from Sellafield Ltd's apprentices, graduates and trainees has been fantastic. I'd like to thank everyone who has been involved, a special thanks to Chris Carruthers whose direction and support has been vital in the organisation of the fundraising events and activities across 2017."

Courtney Goodwin, a trainee at Sellafield, said: "One of the best things about the whole process was when we were invited to meet some of Hospice At Home West Cumbria's staff and to see the facilities they have at their therapy resource and information centre, based locally in Workington town centre.

"It was really interesting to hear about all the services hospice provides, I never knew it had three main service streams that includes home nursing, lymphoedema care and family and bereavement support."
