Aspatria Music Festival got off to a storming start as Scouting For Girls brought the house down.

The three-day event at Aspatria Rugby Club's Bower Park ground has gained a reputation for hosting a great mix of music and this year proved no different.

With two stages in two marquees, there was something for everyone on the bill.

The event was opened with a bang by West Cumbrian punk band The Scumbrians, followed by acts including Cobolt Collision, The Buyers Club, The Sheepwagon, Drudge, Youth Salute, Colt 45, Burma and Prowles.

The capacity Aspatria crowd were whipped into an almost frenzy by Buyers Club, playing popular covers, sustained by the excellent Prowles before Scouting For Girls came on stage.

Lead singer Roy Stride was instantly taken to the crowd's hearts when he said "Hello Spyatri".

He had been rehearsing the local pronounciation to make sure he got it right.

They opened with Heartbeat and continued to belt out their greatest hits until it was time to go home.

Earlier, the band met a couple of their fans from children's hospice Jigsaw in Carlisle. They signed programmes and had their photos taken with the youngsters.

Roy said: "It's been amazing. It's so different to playing a big festival, where you don't meet anyone. The location is beautiful, the organisers are great.

"It's a different vibe at smaller festivals like this. You get to meet the local people and hear about local charities like Jigsaw.

"It was an amazing crowd too and we had a great time."

Acts still to play Aspatria Music Festival, which runs until Sunday, includes Heartbreak Remedy, Marquis Drive, 3 River City and Dr and the Medics.
