A GROUP of tiny superheroes have raised money for a West Cumbrian charity.

Foundation stage children at Flimby Primary School did a topic last term called Up, Up and Away and much of their discussion revolved around superheroes.

Amelia Gibson, five, whose brother Jack has cancer, asked if the children could wear superhero costumes to school to raise money for Jack's Journey, a charity set up by the family to help others with sick children.

Foundation stage leader Megan Little said the rest of the school was invited to take part and pay £1 to dress up.

The little children also decorated cupcakes with superheroes on them and sold those, too.

It was a special day for two-year-old Jack, who will start in nursery in January. He spent the morning at school dressed as Batman.

Grandma Carol Reid said he had thoroughly enjoyed the visit to school.

"He is doing really well," she said. "He only goes to Newcastle for treatment once a month now."

The school raised £267 for Jack's Journey.
