Savings for a newborn baby girl were stolen in a burglary in Carlisle.

Police are investigating the burglary whereby a savings jar was stolen from the living room of a property on the Cloverfields Estate, off Peter Lane.

The savings were for a newly born baby girl, whose parents had saved the money given by family and friends as gifts.

The jar is believed to have contained around £300 in cash. The money was going to be put in a savings account for the baby girl, who is only three weeks old, and used to buy her some new clothes.

The savings jar is described as pink ceramic, with "beautiful baby girl" written around it.

The burglary has occurred between Saturday and yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information in connection with this crime to call Cumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
