Overnight roadworks will start on a major Cumbria road next week.

Balfour Beatty will carry out the work, starting on the A596 at the Northside roundabout and Northside Road then moving to Workington Bridge and Hall Brow. It will be tackled in stages, with the stretch being worked on to be closed between 7pm and 6am.

A signed diversion will be in place for main through traffic and heavy goods vehicles via the A66, A595 and A594. Local diversions will also be in place.

Access will be maintained for residents and pedestrians and there will be no lane closures, lights or other traffic measures outside those hours.

The first phase starts on Tuesday on the approach to Northside roundabout and is expected to take two nights.

Work on Northside roundabout is then expected to take five nights, before moving into Northside Road for three nights.

Work will resume at the Workington Bridge roundabout on May 2, for two nights, then move onto Hall Brow for patching work for one night.
