Part-time traffic lights and a reduced speed limit remain in place on the A66 near Bassenthwaite Lake this week as flood resilience work continues.
The lane closure on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway has now been lifted, with temporary traffic lights and a 40 mph speed limit only operating during the day.
The measures are in place as Highways England staff finish installing safety barriers and putting in road markings on the stretch of road near Thornthwaite.
The £1.5 million scheme to improve flood resilience around Bassenthwaite Lake began in September.
Drivers have faced traffic lights, a 40mph speed limit and temporary road closures while the work has been done, with the overtaking lane on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway out of action for some time.
The work has seen the carriageway raised by up to a metre and a half in response to floods in recent years, which have led to road closures.
The Thornthwaite phase of the work began early this year and was due to finish at the end of July.
But Highways England bosses last week admitted the work would overrun into this week.
A spokesman said it should be completed this week.
