MOUNTAIN rescuers had a busy day in the Lake District as they spent 14 hours assisting people who had come into difficulty in the National Park.

Wasdale MRT attended three separate call outs yesterday including incidents on Scafell Pike and Great End.

They were called out early yesterday morning to a man who had hit his friend and whose friend was missing. The injured man was taken to hospital, while his friend had returned to his tent.

Their next shout involved assisting a walker who was struggling to walk on Scafell Pike. He was located on the Brown Tongue path just below Hollow Stones and walked back down to Wasdale with the help of the team.

As that incident was coming to an end, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team called for assistance with four walkers in Central Gully on Great End.

A small team went up with ropes and other equipment to assist the walkers down after they were lowered most of the way by Keswick and then they were walked back to Wasdale by the team from the village.

Elsewhere Cockermouth MRT were called to a 20-year-old woman who had slipped and injured her ankle while walking around Ennerdale Water.

Team members, who were called at about 2.40pm, treated the casualty at the scene, splinting her injured leg, and carried her a short distance to a waiting ambulance at the south east end of the lake.
