Record numbers of people turned out for the increasingly-popular Touch a Truck event.

The popular family day is run by Cockermouth Rotary Club, and took place in the town on Sunday.

Organiser Joe Fagan said: "It was absolutely brilliant, we had about 1,900 people, which is exceptional.

"The fantastic weather nailed it for us."

There were more than 30 vehicles on show at the James Walker factory site, off Gote Road, and in the next-door Deer Orchard football field, as well as lots of children's entertainment.

"There was a great turnout of exhibitors, lots of things for the children. It was a fantastic family day with something for everyone," Joe continued.

New for this year was an emergency services section. Maryport Inshore Rescue, Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, the police and fire service were all there.

"The rescue team interacted brilliantly with the crowds, it was a big success," said Joe.

There were bouncy castles, face painting and fairground rides. Also introduced especially for the 2016 event was a selection of games which children could take part in, organised by Cockermouth man Chris Wright.

"That was very popular and we will definitely do it again," said Joe.

"We are so grateful to James Walker, without them this could not go ahead, and all the exhibitors," he added.

The club hopes to have raised more than £2,000 for its charity fund.

Visitors were able to take part in a competition to name one of the iconic Eddie Stobart trucks. The winner will liaise with the company regarding the name.
