The team behind plans for Whitehaven’s new £30 million education campus say it’s vital they hear the public’s views.

Designs for the complex, which will bring St Benedict’s School and Mayfield School on to one site, will be put on public show for the first time today.

A public consultation event is being held at St Benedict’s School from 2pm until 8pm.

The project also includes new, community-accessible sports provision on the site.

Talks are taking place ahead of a planning application being submitted to Cumbria County Council later this year.

Tony Shenton, business unit director for main contractors Wates Construction North West, said: “Establishing a relationship with the community and providing a forum in which residents can voice their thoughts on the scheme will be crucial to the success of Campus Whitehaven.

“As lead contractor, we welcome feedback on all elements of the build and will continue to fulfil our commitment to engage with the community to ensure extensive benefit is brought to the area.”

Mark Evans, of Ellis Williams Architects, added: “It’s vital that we get to hear people’s feedback. They are the ones that will be using the campus for years to come, so the design has to work for them”
