Fresh proposals have been tabled to change the boundaries of Cumbria's Parliamentary constituencies.

The revised plans - put forward by the Boundary Commission for England - would see the number of constituencies in the county fall from six to five.

The body says that the number of constituencies in the north west must be reduce from 75 to 68.

Under the proposals, the current seats of Workington and Copeland would be scrapped. Instead, A new constituency called West Cumbria would be formed, incorporating towns including Workington and Whitehaven.

Penrith and the Border, currently held by Conservative MP Rory Stewart, would be re-drawn and re-named Penrith and the Solway.

The change would mean that voters in Cockermouth would see their MP change, while the boundary would cut through the outskirts of Maryport.

The new plans would also see Kirkby Stephen move from Penrith and the Border to be incorporated in Tim Farron's Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency.

In south Cumbria, Millom, which is currently part of Copeland, would be brought into the Barrow and Furness seat, currently held by Labour's John Woodcock.

Members of the public have until December 11 to comment on the proposed changes.
