Rail passengers travelling north of Carlisle are facing delays this evening, following damage to overhead electric wires near Lockerbie.
Virgin Trains services between London Euston and Glasgow Central and Edinburgh are affected, as well as TransPennine Express services between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.
Network Rail says that disruption is expected until the end of service today.
An update on the company's website, posted just before 8.45pm, said: "The overhead electric wires have been damaged near Lockerbie. One line has now reopened following repairs by Network Rail, so a limited number of trains can now run between Carlisle and Carstairs.
"Some trains between Manchester Piccadilly, Preston, Carlisle and Glasgow Central/Edinburgh will continue to be replaced by buses. Please allow for an extended journey time of up to 120 minutes."
Virgin Trains customers can use tickets on:
*ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh
*Virgin Trains East Coast services on any reasonable route
*CrossCountry services on any reasonable route
*TransPennine Express services on any reasonable route
TransPennine Express customers can use tickets on:
*Trains between Manchester and York to connect with Virgin Trains East Coast/CrossCountry services between York and Glasgow Central/Edinburgh
*Virgin Trains services between Preston and Carlisle
