Police have identified the driver of the vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal collision on the A66 near Keswick.

Officers believe a man may have been hit by a HGV.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at around 7.30am after being found injured.

Last night his identity was released by Cumbria Police.

He was 53-year-old David Robinson, who lived in Keswick.

Today a statement from Cumbria Constabulary makes a fresh appeal for footage from other drivers who may have been passing the scene around the time of the collision.

It states: "Police have now identified the driver of the vehicle they believe was involved in the A66 incident yesterday.

"Officers are still appealing for anyone who has dashcam footage of the A66, near to Keswick, between the early hours and 7.30am yesterday.

"Anyone with information should contact police on 101 and ask to speak to PC 1947 Ross."

The A66 was closed in both directions between Crosthwaite roundabout and the junction at High Hill for several hours while investigations were carried out.
