Police investigating a serious assault in Whitehaven are trying to trace a taxi driver they believe could be a key witness.

The grievous bodily harm (GBH) incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, July 2.

Two arrests were made and the suspects have now been released under investigation, while further enquiries are made.

Police say they are trying to trace a potential witness.

They want to speak to a taxi driver who picked up a lone female passenger between midnight and 2am on July 2 from the town centre, taking them to Derwentwater Road.
