Thieves stole a trolley full of alcohol worth more than £500 from a Tesco store.

Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened at 1.40pm yesterday at the supermarket in Annan.

Two men were seen leaving the store with the spirits without having put it through the till.

One of the two men responsible is described as being in his late 40s, medium build, dark hair with grey starting to show, about 5ft 8 tall and was wearing a navy polo shirt with stripes across the front and jeans.

The second was in his late 20s to early 30s, slim build, quite tall, short dark hair, wearing Adidas three stripes tracksuit bottoms and hooded top.

A similar theft was carried out 40 minutes later at the Tesco store in Dumfries. In total 10 bottles of high-value vodka had been stolen worth more than £400.

This thief's description matched the one of the younger man from the Annan theft.

Police Scotland are also probing the theft of £600 worth of of cashmere jumpers from the Canny Scots shop at the Gretna Service Area.

It happened sometime between 10am and 12.30pm on the same day.

There are no descriptions of any suspects.

Constable Carolyne Crozier said: "There are clear similarities between the two Tesco thefts, right down to the description of one of the suspects.

"We are keeping an open mind as to whether or not the cashmere theft is linked. We ask that anyone who might have seen anything which might help us trace those responsible call us at Dumfries on 101."
