Police are investigating a hate crime that happened in Longtown last night.

Eight youths aged in their teens and early 20s shouted verbal abuse at three people outside Longtown Primary School at around 8.30pm.

Police say that the abuse was related to the victims' gender and sexual orientation. The victims are all aged in their 20s.

A statement from Cumbria Police says: "Hate crime of any type will not be tolerated in Cumbria and police are making enquiries into tracing those responsible."

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time.
