Police are appealing for witnesses after a spate of burglaries at farms across west Cumbria.

A car and quad bikes are among the items stolen during the break-ins, which happened between July 19 and July 24.

Cumbria Police is urging farmers to be aware following the incidents.

Strimmers, chainsaws and a red Honda quad bike were stolen from a workshop at a farm near Little Orton between 6pm and 8am on July 22 and 23.

While a farm in the Longthwaite area, near Wigton, has been broken in to twice. On the first occasion, between 9.15pm and 6.30am on July 19 and 20, nothing was taken however a quad bike was stolen between 11pm and 7.30am on July 22 and 23.

A petrol lawnmower and petrol strimmer were taken from a farm in High Longthwaite, near Wigton, on July 19 or 20, between 8pm and 7am.

Another farm in High Longthwaite had an Audi S4 stolen between 5.45am and 7am on July 20 and work tools taken overnight on July 23 or 24.

A farm in Dovenby, near Cockermouth, was burgled between 8.30pm on July 23 and 7.30am on July 24. Property including a chainsaw was taken.

And in Bridekirk, a break-in saw thieves take a strimmer and a chainsaw from a farm overnight between July 23 and 24.

Following one of the burglaries, a man and a woman were seen around the farm in the early hours of the morning.

The man was wearing a Nike hooded-top and Adidas tracksuit bottoms with stripes. He had brown hair and was of slim build.

While the woman is described as smaller than the man, of medium build, and with dark hair tied back in a bun or pony-tail.

Officers investigating the incidents want to hear from anyone who has seen anything suspicious at any of the sites or anyone who may have witnessed a stolen vehicle being transported away.
