Plans for a harbourside housing development in Maryport have been resurrected.

Thirty four homes are planned at Woods Harbour, Strand Street.

Outline planning permission was granted at appeal in 2007, after the proposal was initially thrown out by Allerdale council.

Full plans were later agreed by the council but, due to the economy, the development was not built and the approval has now expired.

A application was made to have the site designated as a village green, which would have protected it from development, but the bid failed.

Developer Maryport Homes has now submitted a fresh application to build 29 one and two-bedroom flats and five two-bedroom houses on the site.

Parking, gardens and landscaping are also included in the plans, which are identical to those previously approved.

A report from agent JT Planning said: "Bringing previously-developed sites back into a viable use is a clear regeneration benefit. Given that this particular site has stood vacant for some time, this adds further weight to the need to find a viable use for the site."

People can comment on the plans to the council until October 6.
