Carlisle's largest housing estate could be set for new neighbours.

Plans have been put before the city council to build a further six homes on a portion of land at Crindledyke to the north of the city.

A design and access statement provided by chartered town planners Taylor & Hardy reveals that Kingmoor Park Properties has applied for outline planning permission to build on less than half an acre of undeveloped grassland.

The site lies within the curtilage of Kingmoor Park on the Crindledyke Estate Road, close to the existing Story development.

If approved, plans reveal that the six detached three-bedroom properties will be built on the land. They will be split into pairs with two properties each sharing access from the Crindledyke Estate Road.

Further detail about the appearance of the properties are reserved for approval, but planners believe the new homes could be accommodated on the site “without any significant impact to the scale, form, function and character of the existing settlement”.

It is also claimed that the new properties will be screened from Kingmoor Park with “strong landscaping treatment” along the eastern and southern boundaries, which planners say will reduce any potential overlooking and privacy issues.

Taylor & Hardy state that the application has the support of the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

A letter from Graham Haywood, director of the LEP states: “I am pleased to advise that the Enterprise Board wish to support the planning application for housing on the above site.

“They believe the proposals will complement the Enterprise Zone and enable the consequent receipts to be re-invested in the further development of the Enterprise Zone.”

The statement provided by Taylor & Hardy concludes: “The proposal provides the opportunity to deliver a sustainably located housing development that would result in limited landscape, highways and infrastructure impacts whilst making a contribution to meeting housing needs in Carlisle.”

A spokesperson for Kingmoor Park Properties was not available to comment.
