Plans have been submitted to build a new gypsy site on land north of Carlisle.

If successful the site, which would house two mobile homes and caravans, would be built on land adjacent to Parffield Stables, Blackford.

Planning documents state that the plans have been submitted to “meet a recognised need for such facilities in the area to facilitate a gypsy lifestyle”.

A covering letter by agent Green Planning Studio Ltd says: “The proposal incorporates two mobile homes, two touring caravans and two utility/dayrooms.

“The utility/dayrooms will provide facilities that enable the occupants of the caravans to minimise the recognised hazards associated with cooking and fire in the close confines of caravans and provide facilities for washing and bathing and the maintenance of basic hygiene.”

The plans show that each utility room would consist of a wash room, kitchen, bathroom and day room.
