Santa arrived on his sleigh to Seaton on Saturday to switch-on the village's Christmas lights.

The event, organised by the parish council, saw crowds gathering to mark the start of the festive season by singing Christmas songs with the village's choirs, lead by Mike Milner.

Residents gave up their time to make the event special for the little ones.

Councillor Celia Tibble, who organised the event, said: "It was absolutely fantastic. We had Santa arriving on his sleigh with Eddie the horse, Gill Brinicombe and Amanda Fisher did face painting and glitter tattoos for the kids, Vicky Smart from Seaton Rainbows organised some Christmas crafts and the county council let us use the library, which was a real bonus.

"Seaton Scouts were selling hot dogs and children had their photos taken with with Marshall, Mickey Mouse and Princess Elsa."

Councillors and their family members impersonated the children's characters, with the costumes lent by Alison Smith, of Sweet Belief.

Logan Murphy, who won Seaton's Got Talent earlier this year, sang two Beatles songs.

Coun Tibble said: "I'm very happy with how the event went, it really showed the community spirit of the village. It wasn't a massive turnout because we were competing against the bigger Workington Chritsmas Festival, but there were hundreds of people there, it was really nice to see."
