A man was stabbed twice and robbed in his own home by a knife-wielding thug.

Carlisle Crown Court heard attacker Wayne Watt told his partner that Simon Grears was "going to get it" as the couple walked to the victim's Whitehaven flat.

Mr Grears had cash stolen from him, was left wounded by Watt's 10-inch blade and underwent surgery following the incident on February 24.

Both Watt, 42, and his 37-year-old girlfriend Kelly Lofthouse, both of Seven Acres, Parton, were jailed after admitting respective roles in the robbery.

Rachel Faux, prosecuting, said the incident occurred at about 7pm when Grears heard from his flat a shout of "Simon, it's Kelly".

"He recognised her voice having known her for a few years," said Miss Faux.

Mr Grears opened the door but was immediately "rushed at" by Watt, who punched him back against a wall. Watt demanded drugs but was told by the householder he didn't have any.

Watt knifed Mr Grears in the upper thigh, snatched £10 from him and, said Miss Faux, "stabbed him for a second time in the leg".

"Miss Lofthouse saying 'don't stab him' before they left together from the scene," added the prosecutor.

Mr Grears' injuries included a "deep" 4cm wound to his thigh.

Tim Evans, for Watt, said the incident was sparked by a "falling-out" over drugs.

Mr Evans accepted Watt had 116 offences on his record, but stressed that only three were for violence, and that he was a "really a burglar".

"Of course he regrets becoming involved. It was a stupid thing to do," said Mr Evans. Watt had got his partner into the crime "and dragged her down as a consequence" of that".

Lofthouse was said to have been unaware Watt had a knife as they went to the address.

She also admitted two sets of other crimes - possessing heroin and crack cocaine, with intent to supply, late last year; and twice racially abusing a Chinese pharmacist in early February.

The report of a probation officer who interviewed her stated: "She would like to tell the court she is very sorry for what she has done."

Lofthouse was said to have taken recent positive steps, and made "good progress" in a bid to kick her drug habit.

She was jailed for a total of four years and nine months by Recorder Julie Clemitson, who sent Watt to prison for eight years.
