A new music festival has been hailed as an "amazing" addition to Egremont Crab Fair by organisers.

Top local artists took to the field at Baybarrow Road to thrill fair-goers on the Saturday of the 750th anniversary fair.

Performances came from Late Night Legacy, Chadelics, Northern Threads, The Black Guards, Rhythm Dead Lady, Avalon, Jodie Murphy, Newtonsmith and Lee Adams.

The festival also saw a freestyle motorbike stunt show as Jamie Squibb and his team of riders performed breathtaking jumps and stunts in mid-air.

Crab Fair organiser Daniel Shutt said: "All the musicians on both stages were amazing, we can see just how much they all love getting out there and showing off their talent and we are pleased we could give them all another event to showcase their great talents.

"The atmosphere was out of this world and there was a real sense of pride from all who attended. The DJ set by DJ Ratman at the end of the night had the marquee bouncing.

He added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers who worked tirelessly on the lead up to the event and on the day. All our musicians and most importantly all our sponsors and donors."

The festival also included children's entertainers, fairground rides and a can and prosecco bar. This year's fair saw Adrian Zivelonghi retain his World Gurning Championship title with Tommy Mattinson, of Aspatria, in second and Gordon Blacklock, of Whitehaven, in third.

The best female gurner was once again Claire Spedding, of Egremont, who won for the third time in a row. In the children's section, the winner was Lexie Park, six, of Egremont.

Steve Foster, chairman of the Crab Fair committee, said: "Our new innovation, Crab Fest, has complimented Friday's Dancing in the Street. It looks to have been a great success.

"I went up there at 5pm and the place was rammed - there were lots of people there enjoying themselves."
