When little Jake Harris heard Olly Murs was coming to Carlisle he pleaded with him to come and visit the hospice where he receives respite care.

The two-year-old, who has complex health needs, is a big fan of Olly's music.

His parents, who live in Egremont, went to see him in concert at Carlisle United's Brunton Park ground in June.

Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice on Durdar Road, launched a Facebook campaign - fronted by Jake - in which they hoped Olly would visit ahead of his city gig.

It showed Jake sitting next to a banner saying: "My mummy and daddy are coming to see you tomorrow. Please come and see me Olly at Jigsaw Children's Hospice."

But sadly, due to work commitments and a tight schedule Olly was unable to attend.

Instead, the star this week issued a video message to little Jake.

In it he blows kisses to the youngster, and tells him to "stay strong" and keep on liking his music.

Chris Bray, head of marketing at income generation at the hospice, said: "It's amazing to think that Olly, who has a very busy schedule, has taken the time out to send Jake this message of appreciation.

"Anything like this lifts everyone in the hospice. It sends a really positive vibe through the place and it also raises our exposure.

"Jake's mum and dad like Olly's music and they went to see him when he performed in Carlisle.

"For our families and children to be able to see someone in the public eye is really important. It helps them forget about the everyday struggles and make the most of moments like this."

He added: "You can see in the video how Jake's mum gets very emotional when she realises that Olly has taken the time out to do this.

"We did a similar thing with Little Mix and we've launched another campaign ahead of Derren Brown's visit to Carlisle."

Olly, 33, is the most successful solo artist to have come from the X Factor.

He brought some of his biggest hits to Carlisle as part of his biggest outdoor tour to date - The Summer Tour 2017.

He got the crowd going with some of his best known tracks - Wrapped Up, Dance With Me Tonight, Troublemaker and Hearts Skips a Beat.

Another treat came part way through his set, when Olly took on a seventies, eighties and nineties-inspired medley.

Olly tweeted after the gigs to say it was phenomenal and his fans were legends. "See you next time," he said

He performed in Carlisle in 2011 at Radio One's Big Weekend.
