A new network has been set up to showcase and increase the arts and cultural activity across Cumbria.

Cumbria County Council and Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) together with arts and cultural organisations from around the county are behind the new movement.

Tullie House and Prism Arts in Carlisle and Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, are among the 30-plus organisations that have already expressed an interest in taking part.

Catherine Coulthard, director of Prism Arts in Carlisle, has been involved from the outset. She will be hosting the network's first meeting in June.

She said: "It is increasingly important for arts and cultural organisations to develop a shared voice in Cumbria.

"At Prism, we are finding this a valuable process and feel that it will lead to new and exciting creative opportunities for people in Cumbria."

The Forestry Commission and The Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere are also keen to participate.
