AN ESTABLISHED used furniture business is setting up shop at a new, bigger home in Brampton.

Lowther Furniture, in Houghton, has relocated from its home of seven years to a unit at The Old Brewery, which is more than eight times the size.

Owner Dougie Bowman, who runs the business with his wife Linda and their daughters Jane and Anna, already has another shop, in Front Street, which opened in April last year.

Since then he explained that things have really taken off and having a shop in the busy town centre has been a good advertisement.

"We're closing the Houghton shop completely and opening in Brampton," said Dougie.

"It was for more room, to have more stock and better displays.

"We've got stuff in storage now that I can't get on display.

"The Brampton shop will send people up. It's getting busier every month.

"I think Brampton is getting a lot better with the likes of Cranstons and there's the new art gallery."

Dougie said they will be sad to leave the Houghton shop and had considered keeping it open - but decided they didn't want to take on too much.

The new unit is 2,500sq ft, which gives them a lot more space than the 300sq ft Hougton shop.

They've redecorated the building which used to be Flex Gym, but other than that will be running the business as they always have done.

The only difference is they can now showcase larger pieces, including tables they make from reclaimed wood, kitchen islands, coffee tables and TV units.

There will be a workshop for painting but the furniture is made elsewhere.
