The name of a new bar and restaurant in Stanwix has been unveiled.

The former Hourglass pub on Scotland Road will be known as Spider & Fly.

The bar and kitchen will open next week employing 10 to 15 people.

Ilka Rhoades and Alex Murrell, who run The Thin White Duke on Devonshire Street in the city, are opening the new venture and have been working on the site for nine months.

Mr Rhoades said: "We are almost there and should be ready to open next week."

Meanwhile, in the city centre the opening date for a new bar called Yellowjacket is imminent.

It is based in the former Lloyds Pharmacy on the corner of Cecil Street and Warwick Road.

A statement on the bar's Facebook page says: "More than just a bar Yellowjacket operates around a personal experience where the combination of alluring tastes, captivating conversation and rapturous hospitality is enjoyed under a jazz swing aura."

The bar will be table service and have tables of up to six people, although single seats will be available at the bar for those wanting a drinks masterclass.

The bar will be launching a telephone booking service and an online booking form soon.

It is run by mother and son team Gill and Cameron Ellis, who have The Lane bar on Long Lane, off Fisher Street.

Work to transform the former Belted Burgers unit attached to the Halston Hotel, also on Warwick Road, is also ongoing.

It is going to become Penny Blue - a venue that will serve food and drink.
