A Cumbrian village will be effectively cut off for five days, while roadworks take place.
The work will also see motorists facing a detour three times the length of their usual journey.
Cumbria County Council has confirmed it is applying to close the C1017 - which runs either side of Wreay - to allow carriageway resurfacing and associated works.
The road closure stretches 2.2km from the A6 at Causeway House to its junction with the C1041 at Wreay, and from Wreay Hall Lodge for about 1.5km to its junction with the C1041 (Roadends).
This means the 1.8-mile cut through from the Southwaite area to the A6, will now take drivers on a 6.3-mile circuitous route all the way up to the A6/M6 roundabout.
It is expected to come into force on November 13.
