A motorist has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after crashing on one of Cumbria's main roads.
Fire crews, police officers and air ambulance medics rushed to the scene of the crash - the A66 between Warcop and Brough - about 1.50pm this afternoon.
A blue Nissan Micra was travelling east when it left the carriageway, overturned on the verge and landed on its roof.
It was the only car involved.
A police spokesman said: "It was some time before the driver - a woman from Scotland – was released from the vehicle."
She suffered serious injuries and was airlifed to James Cook Hospital in Teeside.
The road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Cumbria Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it.
To get in touch, call police on 101 quoting incident 118 of July 28.
