The most popular baby and toddler names in Cumbria can today be revealed.

And it seems that traditional names are making a comeback in the county as some wonderfully old-fashioned names top the lists.

The lists have been compiled from the almost 400 entries we've had in our ever-popular Bonnie Babies competition.

You can see all the pictures of this year's entrants - and how to vote for your favourite - in a special supplement in tomorrow's News & Star .

Topping the list for boys' names in 2017 was Freddie while Millie was the most popular girls' name.

Freddie was closely followed by Alfie, Harry, Joshua and Oliver.

In the girls' list Lily, Scarlett, Ella and Poppy made up the top five.

Other traditional names like Oscar and Amelia also appear in the list - which can be seen in full at the bottom of this article.

Freddie appeared at sixth in last year's top 10 while Millie took top spot this year after being runner-up last time around. The most popular girls' name last year - Lily - dropped to second.

Alfie was the most popular name last year but also fell to second this time.

Nationally, Olivia has replaced Amelia as the most popular baby girls' name in England and Wales, while Muhammad has entered the top 10 most popular boys' names.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Olivia had reclaimed the top spot it previously held between 2008 and 2010. Oliver was the most popular boys' name.

Harper has seen the biggest rise in popularity for girls while Jaxon is growing among boys.

In last year's Bonny Babies competition thousands of votes were cast.
