More than 2,300 people have had their say on controversial plans to install zip wires at a Lake District reservoir.

The Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA), which will consider a proposed £1.8m development for an activity hub at Thirlmere, confirmed it had received 2,368 emails and letter of response before the consultation deadline on Friday.

The authority said it will now consider the views received before a revised update will be published.

All the information will be assessed in line with planning policies and considerations. At this time it is unable to confirm numbers of responses for and against the proposal which has been lodged by Treetop Trek.

The firm wants to create Thirlmere Activity Hub, a zipwire attraction and a series of improvements to the Thirlmere cycleway, car parks and access paths. Plans also include the extension and development of an existing toilet block to provide a reception, changing area and toilet facility.

LDNPA said it will "provide a substantive update no later than January 24", the day it is due to confirm whether or not the application will be considered at the meeting of its Development Control Committee on February 7.

Committee members visited the site on January 10.
