POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a black woman was racially abused in Carlisle.
Officers said a man rolled down his car window and made monkey noises and gestures towards the woman who was walking alone in West Tower Street in the city centre on Monday.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnesses the incident, which happened between 10.30am and 11.30am.
"A lone black female was walking along the street when a dark-coloured vehicle drove past her in the direction of the castle," said a police spokesman.
"A male passenger of the vehicle has wound down his window and made monkey noises and facial expression towards the female."
Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
