A Maryport woman was banned from driving after she was found with three types of drugs in her system.

Alanna Boal, 24, of Mulgrew Close, admitted drug driving when she appeared at the magistrates court in Workington on Friday.

District Judge Gerald Chalk heard that Boal was found with 24 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood, 484 micrograms of Benzolyecgonine per litre of blood and 5.5 micrograms of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood.

Pam Fee, prosecuting, told the judge that on May 23 two police officers were on mobile patrol at Lawn Terrace, Silloth, when they noticed Boal's vehicle. They saw a male passenger spraying deodorant and when they approached the vehicle they smelled cannabis.

A drug swab on Boal tested positive for cocaine and cannabis and the defendant admitted to taking cocaine four days before.

Emily Smith, defending, said: "She accepts she had been smoking earlier in the day. If she had realised the effect of that smoking would have lasted so long she wouldn't have driven. She admitted the passenger was smoking."

Miss Smith added Boal had not realised the cocaine would stay in her body and potentially have an effect on her for that amount of time.

She added: "Because of the effect of these charges she lost her job as a support worker, so this is already having an effect on her life."

The judge was told Boal was extremely remorseful for her behaviour and that is was out of character.

Judge Chalk, sentencing, said: "I give you credit for pleading guilty to these matters at the first opportunity and the fact you don't have any previous convictions. The fact you had three separate drugs in your system causes me a great deal of concern."
She was banned from driving for 21 months and ordered to pay a fine of £100, £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge."
