A van driver was taken to hospital with head injuries after a crash on the A69.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the incident near Low Row.

Sgt Callum Radzan said that the original collision involved a white van, which was subsequently involved in a crash with a blue Ford Focus car.

"The driver of the van, a 30-year-old man, was injured," the Carlisle traffic officer said.

"The air ambulance was called, but left after they were satisfied with his condition.

"The man's injuries are, at this time, not believed to be significant. He has been taken by land ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary with a head injury and a laceration to his arm."

The three occupants of the Ford, all adults, are not believed to be injured.

The main Carlisle to Newcastle road was initially closed in both directions.

The crash happened near the Shell service station, between the A69 junction with the A689 near Brampton and the Denton Mill turn off.

Emergency services, including police, the ambulance service and firefighters, were alerted at 1.30pm.
