A MAN has gone on trial accused of raping a woman in Workington.
Calum Hay, 19, denies an allegation which stems from an incident which is said to have occurred in the town on New Year's Day last year.
Jurors at Carlisle Crown Court were shown a video recording of an interview that the woman gave to police officers the following day.
Of the alleged incident, she told them: "I screamed. I was shouting for him to stop, and to get off."
Continuing, the woman said she tried to get her arm around Hay's neck.
"I started digging my fingers into his face" she told officers.
The court was told Hay, of Hunday Court, Workington, had been interviewed by police the day after the alleged attack.
He denies that he committed the crime.
The trial continues.
