A man accused of wounding another man in the city has appeared at Carlisle Crown Court.

Alfred John Brown, 36, faces one charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Craig Metcalfe with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

It relates to an incident which occurred behind shops on Petteril Bank Road, Harraby, on March 15 this year.

During a short hearing before Judge Barbara Forrester, Brown pleaded not guilty to the wounding charge via video link.

Brown, of Mardale Road, Raffles, Carlisle, is due to go on trial before a jury in the week of July 3. He was remanded in custody by the judge.
