A man was airlifted to hospital following a collision on a busy road.
The 86-year-old man was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital with back injuries after his car, a red Suzuki Splash, was involved in a collision on the A595 at Blackbeck, near Egremont.
A woman in the other car, a Grey Volkswagon Golf, was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital by road ambulance with head injuries.
The two casualties were cut free from their cars by fire crews.
The incident happened just before 2pm at Horton Brow, near to the Blackbeck Hotel, and the road reopened around 4pm.
