A man had to be cut from his car following a one-vehicle crash in west Cumbria.

The 26-year-old, from Barrow, was driving on the A595 near Egremont at 12.30am this morning when the collision happened.

Fire crews from Whitehaven and Egremont used cutting gear to free him from the wreckage.

He was handed into the care of the ambulance service and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

Police said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The crash happened near the roundabout at Woodend.

This junction was closed for over an hour as a result.
