A Police investigation is underway after a 47-year-old man was left with a broken jaw following an alleged assault in Carlisle.

It happened just before 4pm on Thursday, September 21, in Orton Road, near to the bus stop just before the junction with Hutton Way.

Police say that two men were involved and a woman was also present throughout what happened but she is not believed to have been involved.

A 43-year-old man from Carlisle was arrested in suspicion of assault and remains in custody, said a police spokesman.

He added: "Orton Road was busy at the time of the assault and there were a number of people stood at the bus stop as well as two vehicles allegedly stopping to assist the victim. Police would like to hear from those that witnessed the assault."
