Striking images of Lake District scenes ranging from the Rannerdale bluebells to Herdwick sheep strolling through Wasdale will adorn household walls next year after being selected for a charity calendar.

Conservation charity Friends of the Lake District was overwhelmed with hundreds of entries in its photography competition this year.

Winners include an image of Great End covered in snow, taken by Rosamund Macfarlane, of Cockermouth, and chosen as January's image.

A second snowy scene from Rosamund, this time of Buttermere, adorn's February's page.

The March image, by Andrew Locking, shows Buttermere and Whiteless Pike, while April's picture, by the same photographer, depicts a red squirrel in Lorton Vale.

Another image by Andrew brings a timely display of Rannerdale bluebells to May's page.

In June, calendar owners can enjoy a view of Borrowdale, again captured by Andrew.

Simon Lawrence provides the imaged for July and August, with a scene showing Harter Fell and The Rigg, Haweswater, followed by an image of St Bees Head from Fleswick Bay.

A view of Fleetwith Pike and Buttermere by Peter Swan was selected by September, while another of Simon's images, this time showing a fog glacier in Newlands, seen from Castlehead, is in the October slot.

November's page features Herdwick sheep in Wasdale by Chris Himsworth, while the year draws to a close with another landscape image by Simon.

All twelve images also feature on the charity’s set of notecards.

Calendars are £10 and notecards £5, available from www.friendsofthelakedistrict.org.uk/shop or by calling 01539 720788.

A set of Christmas cards featuring other images submitted to the competition is also available, priced at £5.50.
