A Lake District road known for its steep, twisting bends has been named as one of the 10 most picturesque roads in Britain.
Hardknott Pass is a winding, single track road that links Eskdale with the Duddon Valley.
It was chosen in fifth place as motoring experts from car leasing company LeaseCar.uk compiled a list of 10 of the most scenic routes from across the country.
Linking to Wrynose Pass, the drive is regarded as one of the UK's most challenging, with the plethora of stark warning signs that give notice to all who come to tackle its treacherous bends – “Extreme caution”, “Narrow route” and “Severe bends”.
Along with Rosedale Chimney in North Yorkshire, it shares the title of steepest road in England, with both roads reaching a gradient of up to 33 per cent.
The panel chose the Humber Bridge as its favourite stretch, with roads in Powys, North Yorkshire and the Brecon Beacons National Park rounding out the top five.
