A teenager was warned that he could receive a custodial sentence for a knife threat crime.

Paul Hamlet Murray, 18, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court, where he entered guilty pleas to a total of eight offences.

Murray admitted being in possession of a kitchen knife when he threatened another person at Coniston Close in Workington.

He also accepted responsibility for assaulting both Paul Rose and Joanne McKenzie.

Murray admitted possession of an offensive weapon – an iron bar – and damaging four different vehicles.

Recorder Grice adjourned the case and asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

He was told by Brendan Burke, defending, that a psychiatric report was also being commissioned.

All of the background information will be considered by the court at the sentencing hearing, which is due to take place next month.

The offences were committed on February 13, the court was told.

Murray was released on bail ahead of the sentencing hearing at the court.

Among the conditions of the bail are that he lives at Murton Park, in Arlecdon, near Frizington.

He must also not contact any prosecution witnesses, the conditions state.

Murray was addressed in court by Recorder Grice.

He said: “The fact that I am adjourning the matter for reports and the fact that I am granting you bail shouldn’t be taken by you as any indication of what will happen.

“These are serious matters and the question of custody will have to be given real consideration.

“You must prepare yourself.”

The judge told Murray: “Custody is a real option. Do you understand?”

Murray replied: “Yes.”
