A HIGH-RISK sex offender once jailed for abducting two girls at a park is back behind bars.

Michael Graham, 29, was handed a five-year prison sentence in 2010.

A judge at Carlisle Crown Court heard how the girls were playing in a nature trail area of Hammonds Pond.

Graham approached and invited them to "come and see some dens".

He then grabbed their hands, pushed them in front of him and guided them towards the dens.

One of the girls had described how, while in one of the dens, Graham had tied some logs to a piece of string and then tethered this to a tree to "create some sort of barrier".

She thought the intention had been to "trap her", the court heard, with Graham said to have been "nasty" to the pair.

They were eventually found after a dog walker heard voices in the undergrowth.

Graham was handed a five-year jail term for what the sentencing judge said "must have been a truly frightful ordeal" for the victims.

But in 2015 Graham was handed another lengthy prison sentence - this time four years - for performing a sex act in Carlisle Library.

He was also made subject to an order which, among the strict terms, banned him from parks frequented by under-16s.

Yet, following his release from custody in July this year, Graham admitted - when quizzed about a theft - he had gone into Carlisle's Rickerby Park and the neighbouring Chinese Gardens.

Graham was said to have "a variety of personality difficulties".

However, a psychiatrist had concluded there were no untreatable mental illnesses.

Defending Graham, Tim Evans said of the order breach in Rickerby Park: "It was a time when he was seeking to take his own life and he went to the river for comfort.

"There are altogether more serious breaches that can be imagined than this self-reported breach."

Judge James Adkin imposed an immediate 12-month jail term.

Graham, of Partridge Place, Carlisle, had admitted flouting the order and theft.

"The risk that you present to children from being in a park is significant," said Judge Adkin.

"You have shown yourself to be incredibly sexually disinhibited in the past."
