Scores of people enjoyed a host of live music in Carlisle city centre as part of this year's Cumbria Pride event.

Bands and singers have been performing on stage, outside the Old Town Hall, throughout the day.

The headline acts will include a return to Carlisle for two of the city's most famous performers - with Matt Pagan joined by fellow members of Collabro and Lee Brennan performing alongside his 911 bandmates.

Other acts have included The Tailormade - who met while studying at the University of Cumbria - and Andy Crosbie as Elton John.

Harry Irving, from Carlisle, spent most of Saturday watching acts at Cumbria Pride with his friends Gemma and Stephanie. He said: "It's been a really good day. We've been watching a few of the singers on stage and then going for a drink and coming back.

"Because it's free and it's right in the middle of the city centre, you can dip in and out.

"All three of us really wanted to come and see 911. It's rolling back the years.

"It's great that Carlisle is able to have an event like this. You've just got to look at how many people have come along to watch."

Stephanie said: "There's been people selling rainbow flags and wherever you go around town, people are waving them. It's great to see so many people in Carlisle showing support for pride and LGBT people."

Stuart Smith got the train from Workington to Carlisle to take in this year's event. He said: "I've been before. It's always a great day. You've just got to look around to see how much love there is, everyone is happy and everyone is enjoying themselves.

"I've seen a lot of people who just look like they're out doing shopping stop to watch whoever is on stage - and they looked like they were enjoying themselves."

There has been a heightened police presence throughout the city and across Cumbria following Friday's terror attack in London.

However Cumbria police was keen to stress that this was to reassure members of the public and is in line with an increase in policing throughout the UK.

Inspector Chris Wright, of Cumbria police, said: "The terror threat has been raised to critical and so along with the rest of the country, there will be extra provision in place and a higher police presence.

"Like there was a little while ago, there will be some armed officers on duty as well, to reassure members of the public."
