The funeral of Maryport stabbing victim William Richardson will be held on Monday.

Mr Richardson, 34, of Elizabeth Terrace, Maryport, was attacked on Senhouse Street in the early hours of Tuesday last week.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and died on the Wednesday.

His funeral will be held at St Mary's Church in Maryport at 2pm.

In a statement after his death, Mr Richardson's family said: "Our beautiful boy William has gone but we will meet again one day.

"William - our son, Louise’s brother, dad to Alex, nine, and Lewis, eight, and "Daddy William" to Mayson, six, the son of his beloved girlfriend Amy.

"William was a devoted family man."

Known as Wilta, Mr Richardon took up boxing at Workington Town Boys' and Girls' Club in his 20s and later boxed at Maryport Amateur Boxing Club.

Mr Richardson's family has requested family flowers only and donations to the high dependency unit at the Cumberland Infirmary and Maryport Boxing Club.

Sean Morrin, 32, of Nelson Street, Maryport, was charged last week with murder.

Morrin has been remanded in custody to appear in the Carlisle Crown Court on August 29.
