Shannon Dunnon, 17, of Chapel Street, Flimby, and Courtney Watson, 19, of Waste Lane, Cockermouth, have made it to the final of the competition which takes place on Saturday, November 12 at Harraby Community Theatre.
They are among 20 contestants who will take part in four rounds donning evening wear, sportswear, party wear and eco wear – where competitors wear clothes made of recycled materials.
The winner will qualify for next year’s Miss England competition.
Shannon said: “I did not realise there was more to it than being pretty, including raising money for charity which is good fun.
“It’s boosted my confidence and I’ve made a lot of new friends. It’s also boosted my self-esteem doing something good for other people.”
Courtney said: “I’ve seen a couple of friends take part and I thought I’d give it a go as it seems like fun.
“I hadn’t even told my mum that I’d entered. It’s probably one of the biggest things I’ve done. I would recommend it to anyone.”
All the finalists have to raise at least £200 for charity. Shannon and Courtney are planning fundraising events in aid of Variety.
Shannon is studying beauty therapy at Carlisle College and is a former pupil at Netherhall School.
Courtney attended Dean Primary School, Cockermouth School and Lakes College at Lillyhall.
Finalists have had some catwalk training and a mini photoshoot.
